Massage techniques used
Sports and Remedial Massage
Sports massage was originally developed to help athletes prepare their bodies for optimal performance, recover after a big event, or function well during training. Sports massage emphasizes prevention and healing of injuries to the muscles and tendons.
But you don't have to be an athlete to benefit from sports massage. Sports massage is also good for people with injuries, chronic pain or restricted range of motion.
Vibeke will concentrate the treatment on your specific problem area. You will also be given advice on exercises that can help the problem after the treatment if appropriate.
Swedish massage is a full body massage in which oil is applied to your body to facilitate smooth, gliding strokes called effleurage.Other classic Swedish massage moves include kneading, friction, stretching and (sometimes) tapping.
Swedish massage is the foundation for other types of Western massage, including sports massage, deep tissue massage.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is a type of massage aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia, also called connective tissue.
Deep tissue massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as Swedish massage but the pressure will generally be more intense. It is also a more focused type of massage, as the therapist works to release chronic muscle tension or knots also known as "adhesions."
Will it Hurt?
It shouldn't hurt, but it's likely to be a bit more uncomfortable than a classic Swedish massage. Vibeke uses a slower technique which allows the body to accept the pressure into deeper layers without discomfort.
